A Modern and Meaningful Maternity Session | Toronto Maternity Photographer
Pregnancy is one of the most transformative seasons in life, and documenting it should feel just as meaningful as the journey itself. As a Toronto maternity photographer, my goal is to create maternity portraits that feel modern, artistic, and deeply personal. A reflection of who you are and the incredible strength it takes to grow new life.
Recently, I had the honour of photographing a maternity session that felt especially moving. My client Brittany, who is deaf, shared her experience in such a beautiful way that perfectly captures what this kind of session can mean.
How did you feel going into your maternity session?
“I was definitely a mix of nervous and excited, but the excitement was much stronger. I knew this was such a special stage of my life, and I really wanted it captured in a way that felt authentic and beautiful. There is something surreal about being pregnant and knowing your baby is so close to arriving, so I went into the session wanting to freeze that feeling in time.”
Her words capture what many expecting mothers feel. A mix of anticipation, love, and awe. My maternity sessions are designed to honour exactly that. Slowing down to celebrate the beauty of this stage before everything changes.
Did you feel comfortable and supported throughout the experience?
“Yes, one hundred percent. I felt so comfortable, and that comfort really helped me feel confident in front of the camera. I genuinely felt beautiful and glowing, which is not always how you feel late in pregnancy, so that meant a lot. You created such a calm, welcoming space, and it showed in every picture.”
Comfort is everything. I believe every maternity session should feel calm, guided, and effortless, so you can fully relax and enjoy the experience.
As a deaf client, did you feel communication during the session was smooth and accessible?
“Yes, everything was very accessible from the beginning. We communicated through text leading up to the session, and during the shoot, you used clear visual cues and showed me how to pose rather than relying only on spoken instructions. That made everything flow so easily for me. I never felt rushed or confused, and I always felt included in the process.”
What would you say to another deaf client (or anyone feeling unsure) who’s considering a maternity session?
“I would say go for it. You will not regret having these photos to look back on. And as a deaf client, I can say confidently that this experience was fully accessible. The communication was smooth, visual, and clear, and I always felt understood and supported. It felt like more than just a photoshoot — it felt like celebrating my body, my baby, and a really meaningful moment in time.”
